A group of bromeliads sit quietly on a lateral branch high in the canopy of a cloud forest at the top of Cerro Uyuca in Honduras. The air is misty and cool, and in the background, shrouded by the mist, there are more trees adorned with bromeliads. The bromeliads get nutrition from the water that collects in their leaves and do not harm the trees. "Cerro" means "hill" in Spanish, but Cerro Uyuca passes as a mountain with a height of 5,410 feet above sea level. It is a beautiful place, located 9 miles from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, and 18 miles from Escuela Agricola Panamericana Zamorano (Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural School). I went to Cerro Uyuca to search for a little fly I was researching and I stayed at Zamorano.
Teresamarie Yawn creates art that is fantastical, mysterious, and surreal; as well, it can be precise, scientific, and logical. She covers a wide range of topics and captures events from the everyday to the Earth-shattering, and views them from micro- to macroscopic vantage points. As well as paintings and drawings, she creates harmonograph art using a harmonograph (a 19th century instrument that creates geometric designs using the power and periodicity of pendulums).
